National Women’s Health Week 2019

National Women’s Health Week 2019

According to the Office of Women’s Health (OWH), women aren’t proactive enough in their pursuit of healthier lives. In fact, this realization led OWH to create National Women’s Health Week. However, what is women’s health week, and how does it help women live healthier? By learning about its importance, you can understand how it empowers women to take control of their health.

What Is National Women's Health Week?

First, let’s take a more in-depth look at women’s health week in general. Every year, it starts on Mother’s Day. As the name suggests, it lasts for one week. For 2019, National Women’s Health Week runs from May 12 to 18.
The goal of women’s health week is to help women of all ages live the healthiest lives that they can. It also aims to spread awareness about the importance of women’s health.

Keep in mind that women’s health week doesn’t typically focus on just one aspect of women’s health. Instead, it addresses women’s health as a whole, so it covers everything from general to mental health.

Importance of National Women's Health Week in 2019

Studies show that women are more prone to certain health problems than men. For example, anxiety and depression are more common in women, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). To make matters worse, WHO says that mental problems affect roughly one out of every three people. Since the vast majority of these people are women, it stands to reason that promoting women’s health is important.

Step Toward Living a Healthier Life

During women’s health week, OWH recommends steps that women can take to improve their quality of life. Some of these steps are pretty straightforward, such as eating healthy and being active. Also, these steps include getting regular checkups and preventive screenings at the doctor.
OWH also reminds women to pay attention to their mental health. Eating right and getting enough sleep can improve their mental state. In addition, OWH recommends that they do more to manage stress.
Lastly, OWH reminds women to practice safe behaviors, such as not smoking, using protection, and not texting while driving. These are some of the mistakes that women make, and OWH hopes that women’s health week can eliminate them.

Why Is Managing Mental Health So Important for Women?

Managing mental health is one of the key focal points of women’s health week. Once again, women are more likely to develop certain mental health problems than men. Also, mental disorders are common risk factors for substance abuse. Failure to deal with them can lead to the development of substance abuse.
